The Hoover Bit is the most forgotten part on a VW engine rebuild but is one of the most important! The Hoover Bit fills the gap at the base of the oil cooler, ensuring as much air as possible will be directed through the oil cooler. Without the Hoover Bit, air will bypass the oil cooler, significantly decreasing the cooling effectiveness and lead to higher oil temperatures.
